16th Day - Monday - 2/7 - Kindergarten

Day 16 - Kindergarten

Started off the week at the orphanage again, we didn't sleep in today since we were going to go to the kindergarten today.

We woke up at around 8:30am, had breakfast quickly and cycled to the kindergarten. It was raining a little this morning so we had our ponchos on when we cycled there.

I left my SD card at home, so I took photos at the kindergarten with Francisco's phone instead. I think they turned out pretty well.

After doing morning exercises and singing the national anthem with the kids we separated into different classes again. This time I was upstairs with Ella, helping out the teacher with the slightly older kids.

 Reading out to the kids

Ella reading out fruits to the kids

It was in English and the kids tried their best to pronounce it correctly

Everyone paid attention

After Ella finished teaching the kids the English names of the fruits, the older volunteer couple came in to teach the kids more English, so we left to help out other classes.

Checking in on Frank and Emilia's room

They also helped with cleaning the room

We also met another volunteer from England, Katie. She's 18 and she came here alone to volunteer during her gap year. She knows Kun A from the orphanage so she's staying with the kids at the orphanage during her stay.

We played with the kids since they had finished their morning lessons

Kids took a liking to Don's hat

and his back.

Yikes

Also liked playing with Katie's hair

At 11am we helped the kids out with lunch like we usually do.

The younger kids have lunch a little earlier since the older kids come down for their lunch at around 11:20am.

 Prayer before food

After lunch, we put them to sleep before we leave

Day 16 - Khao Lak Night Market

We left for the night market at around 5:30pm so we could start before it got too dark.

In the back of the pickup truck

At the parking lot we noticed that there was a tsunami museum dedicated to the 2004 Boxing day tsunami so we stopped by for a visit.

One of the police boats that was washed ashore when the tsunami hit

Had a lot of charts documenting the number of lost and deceased people.

Also sold souvenirs since entrance was free.

Also had lots of photos of the disaster, including newspaper clippings

Then at around 6:30pm we left for the night market about 3 mins walk away from the museum.

It's a bit dark since I only started taking photos at around late 7pm.

Sold pretty much what you'd expect from a night market

Fresh produce

Clothes, both original and counterfeit

Small bars and restaurants

Was a pretty big market since Khao Lak is a tourist village

More souvenirs

Food stalls

After grabbing some food from the food stalls for dinner, we drove back home.

We got back at around late 9pm and got ready for tomorrow at the orphanage.
